Polish Defense Minister: Ukraine will not join the EU with Bandera
Poland’s defense minister has stated that historical disputes and the glorification of Stepan Bandera remain a major obstacle to Ukraine’s European integration.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that historical disagreements and the glorification of Stepan Bandera constitute an insurmountable obstacle to Kyiv’s path toward membership in the European Union. The remarks were reported by Polsat News.
According to the Polish politician, there should be no place in Europe’s “pantheon” for figures who undermine international cooperation. He said that Warsaw would firmly defend its position when voting on future EU enlargement.
“With Bandera, Ukraine will not enter the European Union,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said bluntly.
He added that Poland is a full member of the EU and that “no one will tell us how we should vote on the accession of any particular country.”
The minister argued that Poland’s current government is acting far more decisively than its predecessors and expects its partners to adhere to the principle of solidarity.
As the UOJ reported, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church previously accused Russia of fueling tensions between Poland and Ukraine.
