Rivne Eparchy cleric sent to military unit after mobilization
Military enlistment officials declined to disclose details about Archpriest Vadym Muliar’s medical condition.
Vadym Muliar, a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Rivne Eparchy, has been assigned to a military unit for service following his mobilization. The Rivne Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) commented on the priest’s detention to Polissia News.
According to the military authorities, the cleric had been listed as a “violator of military registration requirements” and was taken to the recruitment center to determine his fitness for service. The following day, June 24, a military medical commission declared him fit for military duty, after which he was immediately assigned to a military unit in accordance with the presidential mobilization decree.
The TRC did not comment on details of the priest’s health condition or the recent leg surgery that, according to the eparchy, he had undergone shortly before his detention.
As previously reported by the Rivne Eparchy, the clergyman was stopped by police officers near his home on June 23, 2026, under the pretext of a document check. He was then taken to the territorial recruitment center. The eparchy expressed concern about his health, noting that he had recently undergone leg surgery and had corresponding medical indications.
As the UOJ reported, the secretary of the Rivne Eparchy previously called on the faithful to help protect their priests.
