Metropolitan Sergiy leads festal Liturgy at Khreshchatyk Monastery
Hundreds of believers gathered at the UOC’s St. John the Theologian Monastery in Bukovina to celebrate its patronal feast.
On July 7, 2026, one of the patronal feasts of the Monastery of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in the village of Khreshchatyk, Chernivtsi region, was celebrated – the Nativity of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist of the Lord John. The event was reported on the Facebook page of faithful of the Chernivtsi Eparchy.
The festal Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Sergiy of Ternopil and Kremenets. Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, Metropolitan Volodymyr of Pochaiv, Metropolitan Yevseviy of Shepetivka and Slavuta, Bishop Kleopa of Novoselytsia, Bishop Nikita of Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia, the monastery’s clergy, priests of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy, and guests from other eparchies of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
On the eve of the feast, an All-Night Vigil was celebrated at the monastery. The service was also led by Metropolitan Sergiy, concelebrated by Metropolitans Meletiy and Yevseviy, the brethren of the monastery, and diocesan clergy.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that on July 4, a traditional cross procession to the Khreshchatyk Monastery took place, bringing together more than 5,000 faithful. Pilgrims walked approximately 40 kilometers while offering prayers for peace in Ukraine.
