In 2023, the building’s vault and roof tiles collapsed.

In Lviv region, donors still have not been found who are willing to finance the restoration of the historic 18th-century synagogue in Brody, a monument of national significance. The Lviv Regional Military Administration’s Department of Architecture and Urban Development told the local outlet tvoemisto.

“The situation with the synagogue remains unchanged. No one wants to become a donor and allocate funds for the restoration,” the statement says.

It is reported that in 2023 the building’s vault and roof tiles collapsed. About 1 million hryvnias is needed to prepare a restoration project, but those funds were not included in the regional budget for 2024. Last year the region searched for public organizations and international donors who could join the restoration effort. So far, only restoration proposals have been presented – including projects to replace missing fragments of the facade with glass structures.

The stone synagogue was built in 1742. It survived fires and repairs and is now in an emergency condition. Local authorities previously tried to restore it and adapt it into an art gallery, but the plan was never implemented.

As the UOJ wrote earlier, the Lviv administration, with media support, is persecuting UOC communities.
