Court extends restrictive measure for Met. Theodosiy until late September
The hierarch’s defense dismissed the prosecutors’ claims as empty formalism, stressing that there was no evidence of any violations.
The Sosnivka District Court of Cherkasy has extended the restrictive measure imposed on Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy until September 30, 2026. The judge granted the prosecution’s motion, keeping the UOC hierarch under a personal recognizance obligation for another two months, Suspilne Cherkasy reports.
Prosecutor Vadym Kolomiiets insisted that the restrictions be extended, citing alleged risks that the bishop might flee or exert pressure on witnesses and victims. Once again, the prosecution pointed to the five notices of suspicion issued against him and the absence of any registered property in his name as factors supposedly requiring continued judicial supervision.
The hierarch’s defense described the prosecution’s arguments as empty formalism, emphasizing the complete lack of evidence that Metropolitan Theodosiy had violated any of the restrictions. Attorney Tamara Hrydenko said the criminal case was demonstrative in nature and had no lawful basis.
Metropolitan Theodosiy himself directly described the prosecution’s actions in the courtroom as “a farce staged by the prosecutor’s office.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that an expert had found no incitement to hostility in Metropolitan Theodosiy’s statements.
