OCU cleric explains whether it is sinful to report relatives to TRC
A cleric of the OCU, Oleksiy Filiuk, believes that if you report a “troublesome” father-in-law to the TRC, it would not be considered a sin.
The OCU “priest” and blogger Oleksiy Filyuk published a video on his social media where he responds to the question of whether it is acceptable to turn in one’s father-in-law to the conscription office, and whether doing so would be sinful.
Filiuk asserts that it is permissible under the condition that the father-in-law is “troublesome”, not disabled, has no small children, and is in good health.
“If he’s truly very troublesome, and has no health contraindications, strong and healthy but causes harm at home, drinks excessively, torments the mother-in-law, torments the children, then there’s no sin in reporting him to the TRC,” Filiuk said, adding that “Ukraine must be defended, and therefore this is not a sin.”
“As they say, there is no greater love than when someone even lays down their soul for their neighbor,” the OCU cleric said, without specifying who exactly “they” are.
According to him, if someone is causing trouble to those around them, “then something needs to be done to bring them to their senses.”
“There’s no need to send him to prison, or lock him in a basement, but the TRC is fine,” Filiuk concluded.
