Archbishop Pimen consecrates antimensia for churches of Rivne Eparchy
The relics will be transferred to those churches of the eparchy where the renewal or replacement of antimensia is required.
On July 3, 2025, an important event for the spiritual life of the eparchy – the rite of consecration of antimensia, performed by Archbishop Pimen of Rivne and Ostroh, took place at the St. George's Metochion in the city of Rivne. This was reported by the press service of the Rivne Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
During the service, the archpastor offered prayers for the clergy, believers, and parishes of the eparchy, after which he consecrated new antimensia, which will soon be given to churches where there is a need for their renewal or replacement.
An antimension (or antimins) is a special liturgical linen or silk cloth, kept on an altar, consecrated by a bishop, depicting the entombment of Christ and containing sewn-in relics of holy martyrs. They symbolize the Holy Sepulchre and serve as a sign of the canonical connection of a specific church with the ruling bishop and the entire fullness of the Church. Without the antimension, the Divine Liturgy cannot be celebrated
The distribution of new antimensia is not merely a technical matter but, above all, a spiritual necessity, bearing witness to the living breath of the Church and the prayerful life of the eparchy.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in the village of Druzhba in the Rivne region, a new altar of the UOC church was consecrated.
