Over two days, the procession participants have walked nearly 50 kilometers.

More than 5,000 believers participated in the traditional procession from Chernivtsi to the St. John Monastery in the village of Khreshchatyk, as reported on the Facebook page of Faithful of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy of the UOC.

The procession set out on July 5, 2025. Among the participants were many young people. In addition to traditional prayerful chants, they sang the Serbian spiritual hymn “Eternal Faith, Glorious Faith.”

On July 6, before the all-night vigil on the eve of the Nativity of John the Forerunner, the faithful came to the monastery in Khreshchatyk. The service was led by Metropolitan Serhiy of Ternopil, concelebrated with Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi, Metropolitan Yevseviy of Shepetivka, Bishop Nikita of Ivano-Frankivsk, and Bishop Jonah of Kitsman.

The procession participants stayed overnight at the monastery to celebrate the feast of the Nativity of John the Forerunner at the monastery. Most of them camped in tents.

The festive Divine Liturgy was also led by Metropolitan Serhiy of Ternopil.

The history of the Khreshchatyk Monastery dates back to the 17th century. It was founded by monks from the Maniava Skete who left Galicia due to persecution by the Uniates.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that a multi-thousand procession took place in Bukovyna to the Kreshchatyk Monastery of the UOC.
