State Duma member calls on ROC to defrock priest Andrey Tkachev
Nina Ostanina said that Tkachev casts a shadow on the ROC.
The head of the Duma Committee on Family Protection, Nina Ostanina, called on the ROC to defrock Archpriest Andrey Tkachev for his latest scandalous statement. On the Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity, Tkachev blamed Russian women for the demographic crisis in Russia, calling them "weak, depraved, and cowardly". He also urged Russian women to curb their ambitions and focus on helping men.
“He has cast such a shadow over the Russian Orthodox Church that it’s time for the Church leadership to seriously consider defrocking him, because he clearly does not represent the views of the Russian Orthodox Church,” said Ostanina.
According to her, such public figures have no place in a secular state. “If he doesn’t like female parishioners, they’ll simply stop coming to him. And he will also drive others away from the Russian Orthodox Church,” Ostanina said, emphasizing that Tkachev is not suitable to be the “face” of the ROC.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Tkachev, those who call for peace are acting under the spirit of the Antichrist.
