Metropolitan of Corinth reposed in the Lord
Metropolitan Dionysios IV has passed away after an illness, concluding 19 years of service and leaving a significant pastoral legacy.
On August 7, 2025, the Holy Apostolic Metropolis of Corinth announced the passing of its ruling hierarch, Metropolitan Dionysios IV, who peacefully passed away to the Lord after a prolonged illness at the age of 74. This was reported by the Orthodoxia News Agency.
The late archpastor led the Metropolis of Corinth, Sikyon, Zemen, Tarsus, and Polyphegos for 19 years, leaving behind a rich spiritual, pastoral, and social legacy. He was known for his deep faith, sacrificial love for his flock, and zealous service to the Church.
As a sign of mourning, flags are lowered and mourning bells toll in the churches of Corinth. The farewell to the late hierarch will take place at the Apostle Paul Cathedral in Corinth. The funeral service will be led by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. The burial will take place at the Zoodochos Pigi cemetery.
Metropolitan Dionysios (in the world Dimitrios Mandalos) was born in 1952 in Athens. He received a theological education, progressed from deacon to chief secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, and in 2006 was elected Metropolitan of Corinth.
During his years of service, he initiated numerous church, educational, and charitable projects – the restoration of the spiritual institute «Corinthian Paulines», the creation of centers to aid those in need, schools of Byzantine music, iconography, and church art. He represented the Church of Greece at international events and participated in dialogue with the state.
