Hudziak: Zelensky proposed that a UGCC priest become Minister of Education

Bohdan Prakh declined Zelensky’s offer.
The Philadelphia Metropolitan of the UGCC, Borys Gudziak, stated that during Zelensky’s visit to the Ukrainian Catholic University of the UGCC in Lviv, the president offered its rector, Bohdan Prakh, the post of Minister of Education.
According to Gudziak, Prakh refused Zelensky, since a Catholic priest, under canon law, cannot hold state offices.
“There are exceptions, but the rule is clear and it stands. Unlike in the Orthodox world, where norms are blurred, in the Catholic Church there is a Code of Canons for Rome and for the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches, and everything is set down very clearly,” Hudziak explained.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Shevchuk, the UGCC does not belong to the structure of the RCC.
