Inspection of UOC churches and monasteries launched in Kyiv
Nearly 50 sites leased by the UOC will be inspected.
The State Historical and Architectural Reserve “Ancient Kyiv” has begun inspecting a number of cultural heritage sites in the capital, most of which are Ukrainian Orthodox Church churches – architectural monuments currently used under lease agreements. The list of sites was published on the Reserve’s Facebook page on September 12, 2025.
It is noted that the Reserve will be checking the preservation of these properties and their compliance with current legislation.
The inspection plan compiled by the Reserve includes the following UOC churches and monasteries:
· St. Macarius Church (UOC);
· 14 sites on the territory of the Ascension Florovsky Convent (UOC);
· Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, also called Vozdvyzhenska (UOC);
· 4 sites belonging to the complex of St. Elias Church (UOC);
· Church of the Ascension of the Lord (UOC);
· The complex of the Protection Convent (20 sites, most leased by the UOC);
· Church of the Protection of the Mother of God (Pryorka) (UOC);
· Church of Saints Constantine and Helen (also Dmitriivska Church, or Church of St. Dimitry of Rostov) (UOC).
As well as:
· St. Alexander’s Roman Catholic Church (RCC);
· Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God Pyrohova (OCU);
· Bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas Dobryi (UGCC);
· Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in Podil, with church and bell tower (OCU);
· Church of the Nativity of Christ (OCU);
· Refectory at 1 Hryhoriy Skovoroda Street (Kyiv-Mohyla Academy);
· St. Nicholas Naberezhny Church with bell tower (OCU);
· Part of the complex of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery (5 sites);
· Church of the Protection (Solomenka) (OCU);
· Church of St. Nicholas Prytyska with parish school (OCU);
· St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral (UOC-KP);
· National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (former Kyiv Theological Seminary);
· Several buildings of the former Brotherhood Monastery (now Kyiv-Mohyla Academy), as well as residential and administrative buildings.
“The main part consists of churches and monasteries: 14 within the Florovsky Convent complex, 20 within the Protection Convent complex, 4 within the St. Elias Church complex. In total, almost 50 sites are leased by the UOC, 4 by the OCU, 1 by the RCC, and 1 by the UGCC. There are also civil buildings,” the statement says.
As the UOJ reported earlier, DESS is seeking to strip the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC of all its property.
