15,000 faithful venerate Kursk Icon of the Mother of God in Serbia
According to believers, the Kursk Icon has repeatedly saved the monastery from fires and attacks, strengthened the weak, and healed the sick.
On September 21, 2025, Tumane Monastery in Serbia celebrated the 90th anniversary of the transfer of the miraculous Kursk Icon of the Mother of God. More than 15,000 faithful came to venerate the icon and take part in the services, the Serbian Orthodox Church press office reported.
The day included a festive Liturgy, a blessing of water, and a procession with the wonderworking icon. The faithful were given blessed laurel and olive leaves as well as rose petals. The monastery’s abbot, Archimandrite Dimitrije, noted that such large-scale participation was a testimony of the people’s deep love for the Church and of the living presence of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The Kursk Icon of the Mother of God was brought to Serbia by Russian monks about 90 years ago and has since been kept in Tumane Monastery. According to tradition, numerous miracles have been worked through it: saving the monastery from fires, warning of attacks, helping childless families, and healing the sick.
In honor of the anniversary, Archimandrite Dimitrije published the book “She Never Sleeps – The Tumane Beauty.” The edition is available in newspaper kiosks across Serbia, with all proceeds directed to the humanitarian needs of the Religious Charity Fund.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that at the 800th anniversary of Mesic Monastery, Patriarch Porfirije reminded that human laws are changeable, but God’s law is eternal.
