The Kremlin responded to Merz's proposals for a Christmas ceasefire.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, rejected the proposal for a Christmas ceasefire, which was announced by Volodymyr Zelensky on December 16, as reported by RBC Ukraine. A Kremlin representative stated: "We want peace, we do not want a truce to give Ukraine a break and prepare for the continuation of the war."

Peskov stated that the position of the Russian Federation is "consistent, transparent, and well-known both in the USA and in Ukraine". "We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, ensure our interests, and guarantee peace in Europe for the future," added the Kremlin press secretary.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Zelensky supported Merz's proposal for a Christmas truce.
