The President instructed the Rada to review the calendar due to "bad coincidences" of tragedy days with professional holidays.

Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Verkhovna Rada to prepare proposals for revising the calendar of holidays and commemorative dates. He announced this on December 22 in his evening video address.

"Today we spoke with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. Among other things, I asked Ruslan, together with the parliamentary body, as well as with the government and civil society representatives, to prepare proposals for determining new and logical approaches to the holidays and special days of our calendar," said Zelensky.

According to him, the war has brought many changes to the calendar, creating "bad calendar coincidences".

"When days of tragedy coincide with professional holidays. Or when, on the same day, dating back to Soviet times and the early years of independence, there are several completely different professional observances. All of this needs to be harminized," explained the President.

Zelensky drew a parallel with the transfer of Christmas celebrations to December 25: "Just as true Christmas was easily perceived – on December 25 – so other dates should be fair and correct."

Zelensky did not specify which holidays he was referring to.

On the same day, in a conversation with journalists, Zelensky reported that Russians plan attacks "at our Christmas": "We understand that it is precisely on these days that they might – well, it’s in their nature at Christmas – because, as you know, it’s exactly at our Christmas, yes, to carry out some kind of massive strike."

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Zelensky supported Mertz's proposal for a Christmas truce.
