Schools in California have abolished the so-called “gender secrecy policy”.

On December 22, 2025, a federal court in the U.S. state of California issued a final ruling against the state’s “gender secrecy policies”, which had allowed schools to conceal from parents the so-called gender transitions of their children. This was reported by The Catholic World Report.

The lawsuit was initially filed by Christian teachers E. Mirabelli and L. E. West, who opposed keeping a student’s gender identity secret from parents. The educators defended both the right of parents to receive information about their children and the right of teachers to provide such information.

The court’s decision abolishes the confidential policy of educational institutions that permitted schools to hide the fact that a child had begun identifying as a member of the opposite sex or another group associated with the LGBT community.

The religious liberty organization Thomas More Society stated that the ruling “protects all California parents, students, and teachers” and “restores sanity and common sense”.

Gender- and LGBT-related school policies have come under fire over the past year from the White House. In August 2025, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in August directed U.S. states to remove gender ideology material from their curricula or else face the loss of federal funding.

Previously, the UOJ reported that a court in Italy had approved a gender change for a 13-year-old girl.
