Metropolitan Arseniy required heart surgery after nearly two years in pretrial detention, where his health significantly deteriorated.

On March 18, 2026, Metropolitan Arseniy, abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, underwent heart surgery at a clinic in Kyiv, according to the Lavra’s Telegram channel.

The operation took place on the feast of the uncovering of the relics of St. Luke of Crimea. After his release from pretrial detention on February 25, the hierarch underwent the necessary examinations and preparation for surgery.

The surgery lasted several hours and was completed successfully. According to doctors, Metropolitan Arseniy’s prolonged stay in pretrial detention seriously worsened his health and could have led to irreversible consequences.

He will now undergo a period of recovery and rehabilitation under medical supervision.

On the day of the operation, the brethren of the Sviatohirsk Lavra and the sisters of its sketes served a joint moleben for a successful outcome and called on the faithful to continue praying for Metropolitan Arseniy’s health.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Arseniy was unable to attend court because of hospitalization.
