Georgian Church sets the date for election of three candidates to throne
The Holy Synod of the Georgian Church resolved organizational matters and established special commissions to prepare for the election of a new primate.
On April 3, 2026, it became known that the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church scheduled a meeting to nominate candidates for the Patriarchal Throne for April 24.
Head of the Public Relations Service of the Georgian Church Andria Jagmaidze told journalists that at the past meeting, the hierarchs decided on the main organizational and procedural issues.
"At the meeting, procedures for the next expanded assembly were determined, Jagmaidze said. "The Synod created three commissions: mandate, counting, and editorial. The election of the Patriarch is a complex process, votes must be correctly counted, many delegates will participate in the expanded session, so everything must be organized."
The spokesperson emphasized that in the preparation process, there should be no ambiguity at any level. Jagmaidze also clarified that the expanded session for the election of the Primate will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Georgian Church responded to SVR's words about Phanar's interference in the elections.
