Serbian authorities okay creation of university jointly with Serbian Church
The Serbian government has approved a memorandum on cooperation with the Serbian Orthodox Church for the establishment of the Saint Sava University.
On April 2, 2026, the Serbian government decided to officially begin work with the Serbian Orthodox Church on the creation of Saint Sava University, UOJ in Serbia reports. The relevant memorandum of understanding was approved by ministers at a meeting in Belgrade.
The new university is expected to become the first educational institution to combine modern academic programs with traditional spiritual values. The project’s organizers aim to create an institution where students will receive not only a high-quality education, but also moral formation rooted in the people’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The authorities and the Church will now work together to develop the education system, with particular attention to safeguarding traditional values in contemporary society.
At the same meeting, the government also adopted a number of other decisions in the areas of healthcare, infrastructure, and construction.
The founding of Saint Sava University marks an important step in strengthening ties between the state and the Serbian Church in an effort to unite academic scholarship with a spiritual foundation.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Serbian Church honored the victims of the bombing of Yugoslavia.
