The Primate of the UOC celebrated the service on Great and Holy Wednesday and awarded clergy of the Kyiv Eparchy.

On April 8, 2026, Great and Holy Wednesday, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry celebrated the final Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts of this year at the St. Panteleimon Convent in Feofania, the UOC press service reports.

The service was held in the monastery’s main cathedral. Concelebrating with the Primate were Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC, along with hierarchs and clergy of the Kyiv Eparchy. The hymns were sung by the choir of the Kyiv Theological Schools.

At the Little Entrance, His Beatitude bestowed liturgical awards on members of the clergy.

During the augmented litany, special prayers were offered for peace on Ukrainian soil, for an end to enmity, for help to the suffering, and for the strengthening of the people. In prayer, the Primate asked the Lord to grant mercy to Ukraine, strengthen the soldiers, free the captives, and comfort all those who have been left homeless.

At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Onuphry read the Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian for the last time this Great Lent. Addressing the faithful, he recalled that on Great and Holy Wednesday the Church commemorates the repentance of the sinful woman who anointed Christ with myrrh, as well as the betrayal of Judas, and he called on the flock to pass worthily through the remaining days of Holy Week and to greet Christ’s Resurrection with spiritual joy.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry presided over the liturgy at the Annunciation Church in Kyiv.
