The Moldovan Orthodox Church said negative media coverage of Metropolitan Vladimir is the first stage of a broader campaign aimed at discrediting the Church and undermining its authority in society.

On June 9, 2026, the Orthodox Church of Moldova issued an official statement regarding what it described as attempts to tarnish the image of Metropolitan Vladimir of Chișinău and All Moldova. The Moldovan Metropolis stated that the Church has become the target of a well-planned and coordinated attack.

Church representatives described the developments in the media sphere as the first step in the implementation of a broader scenario aimed at discrediting the clergy. The Synodal Department for Public Relations expressed serious concern over what it called a press campaign pursuing clearly defined objectives.

The Metropolis called on journalists and the public to observe standards of decency and adhere to Christian principles of conduct. Church officials stressed that the “red lines” of public discourse on religion must not be crossed.

The Orthodox Church of Moldova emphasized its role as a spiritual guide and a source of hope for believers during the current difficult times.

According to the statement, any attempts to undermine the Church’s authority harm society as a whole and make it more difficult for people to overcome moral and spiritual challenges. The Metropolis urged those behind the attacks to demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and mutual respect in order to preserve stability in the country.

As previously reported by the UOJ, believers of the Moldovan Metropolis were barred from entering a church following a court decision.
