More than 800 anti-Christian incidents reported in France in 2025
France’s Interior Ministry has published a report on a sharp rise in violence against believers.
In April 2026, the Interior Ministry of France presented the official document “Report on Anti-Religious Acts 2025,” which showed the dynamics of violence in the country over the past 15 years. According to the ministry’s data, 843 incidents against Christians were recorded in the country in 2025, accounting for more than a third of all anti-religious acts in the country, reports Evangelical Focus.
The majority of the crimes (87%) involved property damage. Christian churches and shrines were targeted 627 times. Most often, perpetrators committed thefts or attempted robberies (362 cases), engaged in vandalism (254 incidents), and painted graffiti on church walls. The arson statistics caused particular alarm: in 2025 alone, 45 Christian churches were set on fire in France.
In addition, the number of threats against parishioners and cases of disrupted worship services rose by 86%. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez officially acknowledged that in recent years the country has faced a “revival of anti-religious acts,” affecting representatives of all faiths.
The report also notes an unprecedented surge in antisemitism (more than 1,600 cases) and an increase in attacks on Muslims, whose number became the highest since 2015. At the same time, the authorities admitted that monitoring such attacks on social media and the internet is now virtually impossible.
As the UOJ reported, Paris police beat believers for protesting against the desecration of churches.
