Firefighters save 18th-century church in Ternopil region
Firefighters prevented the loss of an ancient church in Rokhmanov, arriving on the scene in four minutes.
In the village of Rokhmanov in Ternopil Oblast, rescuers extinguished a fire in the wooden Holy Trinity church of the 18th century in four minutes, preventing the complete destruction of the architectural monument. This was reported by the head of the Shumsk territorial community, Vadym Boyarsky, on Facebook.
The fire at the ancient church of the Shumsk community occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Thanks to the rapid response of the personnel of the 16th State Fire and Rescue Unit, the fire was localized in the shortest possible time.
Only 4 minutes passed from the moment the fire was reported to the arrival of the unit, which made it possible to prevent the flames from spreading to the entire building.
Vadym Boyarsky expressed gratitude to the rescuers for their professionalism and dedication, emphasizing that the shrine had been preserved. Experts are currently establishing the causes of the fire in the unique structure.
As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, the Dormition Church of the Dnipropetrovsk Diocese of the UOC in Mezhova burned down due to shelling.
