The lawmaker said the strike on the monastery became a useful tool against the “routinization” of the war – one Ukraine should take advantage of.

MP Andriy Osadchuk said the strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was a “beneficial” event for drawing Western attention back to Ukraine.

The Holos faction parliamentarian acknowledged that “something extraordinary” has to happen to sustain international interest in events in Ukraine. According to Osadchuk, the strike on the monastery proved to be an effective tool against the “routinization” of the news agenda.

“Well, the strike on the Lavra is actually quite beneficial in this regard, because, thank God, no one was killed and no one was injured. It was a drone, not a missile, as far as I can see; only the roof was damaged. So these were moderate losses, but the attention once again drawn to Ukraine was significant. And, of course, we must make use of this,” the MP said.

According to Osadchuk, the response to the strike on the Ukrainian shrine was insufficient: “The Dormition Cathedral of the Lavra is an absolutely iconic place. But on the other hand, this is simply another crime by the Russian Federation, and the reaction to it, as to a huge number of other crimes, was, let’s say, very moderate.”

At the same time, the MP admitted that the strike on the Lavra felt “strange” to him, since it shattered his personal “concept of security,” according to which the Lavra grounds were considered one of the safest places in Kyiv.

As the UOJ reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused UNESCO of weakness over its statement on the Lavra.
