Muhammad tops baby name rankings in England for third consecutive year
In 2025, the name Muhammad was given to 5,957 boys in England and Wales, while Olivia remained the most popular girls’ name for the tenth year in a row.
The name Muhammad has topped the list of the most popular names for newborn boys in England and Wales for the third consecutive year, according to The Sun, citing data from the UK’s Office for National Statistics.
In 2025, 5,957 boys were named Muhammad. Noah ranked second, followed by Leo in third place. The rest of the top ten included Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore, and Freddie.
Among newborn girls, Olivia retained its position as the most popular name for the tenth consecutive year. The name was given to 2,386 girls during the past year. Lily moved up to second place, overtaking Amelia.
The top ten girls’ names also included Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy, and Isabella.
The rankings were compiled using official birth registration data for England and Wales for the 2025 calendar year. The statistical agency published lists of the 100 most popular names for both boys and girls.
