UK issues anti-rape guide for asylum seekers
UK authorities have decided to teach migrants why raping women is unacceptable.
Authorities in the United Kingdom have issued a leaflet for asylum seekers explaining why women must not be raped, Christian Today reports.
The nine-page booklet, titled Understanding Behaviours and Expectations in the UK: A Guide for Asylum Seekers, was published following a series of widely reported rape and sexual assault cases involving migrant suspects and British women and girls. The document explains that sexual comments, whistling, and stalking women are prohibited in the country, and that sexual consent means both partners must say “yes.”
Conservative Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticized the very idea of such an “educational” approach, saying that rather than teaching migrants “civilized behavior,” they should be deported.
Philp’s position was backed by former Conservative MP Miriam Cates, who wrote in a column for Conservative Home that the very existence of the booklet “proves that authorities know that some men from some countries and cultures simply have no understanding of women’s rights or sexual consent.”
She cited Afghanistan, where, she said, “there is no legal concept of consent,” adding that this had already been used as a defense argument in rape cases involving Afghans in Britain.
She said, “The failure to understand the importance of culture, and the conflation of compassion with responsibility are common mistakes of the liberal left.”
Cates stressed that the British government’s primary duty is to protect British citizens, not solve the problems of other countries: “The Prime Minister is not responsible for the situation in Eritrea or Somalia; he is responsible for preventing the brutal rapes of British women and girls by men who could have been refused entry to our country.”
