The head of the Kyiv Patriarchate Nikodym has established a men's stavropegial monastery in the Greek city of Lavrio, reports the UOC-KP on Facebook.
On July 12, 2026, the head of the UOC-KP signed a decree establishing a hermitage dedicated to St Luke of Crimea. The "Archbishop of Simferopol and Yevpatoria" Iakovos (Yannakis) was appointed abbot and skete superior of the new community.
The organization stated that the establishment of a monastery in Greece was a step toward expanding its international mission and creating a prayer center for the Ukrainian diaspora. According to the representatives of the structure, the monastery is intended to strengthen ties with Greek Orthodoxy.
As the UOJ reported, "Patriarch" Nikodym created a UOC-KP diocese on the territory of Mexico.
