UGCC cardinal given tour of Lavra’s Far Caves
Ostapenko showed the UGCC cardinal the damage to the Dormition Cathedral.
UGCC Cardinal Mykola Bychok visited the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and its Far Caves. He inspected the Dormition Cathedral, which was damaged in a drone strike, and was briefed on the restoration work under way, the National Reserve reported on Facebook.
The cardinal was accompanied by Maksym Ostapenko, director general of the National Reserve. Ostapenko showed his guest the damaged Dormition Cathedral and presented an exhibition devoted to the history of the shrine. The UGCC representative was also told about the measures being taken to preserve the monastery’s architectural heritage.
In the Far Caves, also known as the Caves of St. Theodosius, reserve lecturer Yuliia Vyzir gave the cardinal a guided tour. The Far Caves are currently operating in a trial mode and are open only on Fridays and Sundays.
As the UOJ previously reported, the newly appointed UGCC cardinal attended a press conference carrying a Ukrainian flag.
