Pochaiv Lavra calls for fasting and prayer ahead of court hearing on UOC
The Pochaiv Lavra monks have called on the faithful to undertake a spiritual effort for the preservation and strengthening of the Church.
The Spiritual Council of Pochaiv Lavra has blessed the faithful to observe a strict fast and intensify their prayers. The monastery’s brotherhood has called for this spiritual effort on July 21–22 in connection with the upcoming court hearing on the termination of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s legal status.
The monks urged the Church’s faithful and pilgrims to unite in prayer ahead of the court session scheduled for July 22. They stressed that the forthcoming ruling could directly affect the future of the Lavra itself and its holy sites.
“We call upon everyone – the brotherhood, pilgrims, and the faithful children of the Church – to offer heartfelt prayers to the Lord, asking for His mercy and protection,” the appeal reads. The monks expressed hope that this shared spiritual labor would become an offering through which the Lord would strengthen and preserve His holy Church.
As the UOJ reported, the court has opened proceedings on a lawsuit filed by the DESS seeking the liquidation of Holosiiv Hermitage.
