16 villagers in Malawi embrace Orthodoxy
Members of two indigenous African peoples were baptized after four months of catechism.
Sixteen people have embraced Orthodoxy in Malawi’s Zomba District after completing four months of preparation, the African Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church reports.
On July 11, 2026, members of the Yao and Mang’anja peoples received the sacrament of Baptism in the village of Nanhunda. Before entering the Church of Christ, the newly illumined underwent catechesis and studied the foundations of the faith for four months.
The service was celebrated at the parish of Blessed Matrona of Moscow by its rector, Priest Savva Kadzhava.
As the UOJ reported, more than 100 people embraced Orthodoxy at a Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia parish in Hawaii.
