Trump bans state funding for gender transition and hormone therapy for minors
The US President announced that the Medicaid government healthcare program will no longer cover sex change operations and hormone therapy for minors.
On August 11, 2026, US President Donald Trump announced the termination of funding through the federal Medicaid program for sex change operations and hormone therapy for minors, as reported on the official White House page on the social network X.
Trump stated that the corresponding decision, made at his direction, was announced by the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Mehmet Oz. "Medicaid will NO LONGER fund gender transition surgeries and hormones for minors," the American president wrote.
According to Trump, US authorities do not intend to pay for such interventions on children. He called such surgeries and practices "barbaric" and stated that they can cause "unthinkable and irreversible harm" to young bodies.
The President also noted that over the past year and a half, dozens of American hospitals have already ended the so-called "gender-affirming care," and expressed hope that other medical institutions would follow their example. "Just think about all of the young, innocent, and perhaps confused children who will be spared!" Trump wrote.
In his address, he also criticized the position of the Democratic Party on the issue of medical gender transition for minors and emphasized that the Republican administration intends to continue its policy of restricting such procedures for children. Previously, the Trump administration had instructed federal agencies to stop government support for medical sex change procedures for minors.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the US allocated $35,000 for research on "gender minority birthing peopl".
