In Nigeria, Islamists kill three Christians in one week
In Nigeria's Plateau State, Fulani militants continue to attack Christian communities; one of the victims was shot on his way to a Sunday morning worship service.
On August 10, 2026, reports emerged of a series of attacks on Christians in Plateau State in central Nigeria, in which three believers were killed within one week, reports the Christian Daily International.
On August 9, in the village of Fann, armed militants shot a man who was on his way to a Sunday worship service with a Bible in his hands. According to local residents, the attacks were carried out by Fulani militants, members of radical Islamist groups operating in central Nigeria. Representatives of the local community confirmed the killing and called on the authorities to find and prosecute those responsible.
Another attack occurred on August 4 in the village of Kuk. Armed men broke into the home of a Protestant pastor and opened fire. The pastor’s son was fatally shot during the invasion. Local civilian guards halted the attack, engaging the assailants and forcing them to flee before soldiers arrived from their base three miles away, saving the rest of the family from harm.
On August 5, in the village of Lukfay, Fulani militants killed another Christian by name as he was returning home. In addition, on August 3, in the neighboring Nasarawa State, armed men abducted a young Christian woman, a student at a medical school founded by the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ.
According to the 2026 World Watch List, Nigeria remains one of the most dangerous countries for Christians. Between October 2024 and September 2025, 3,490 Christians were killed in the country, accounting for 72% of all recorded killings of believers for their faith worldwide. Human rights advocates note that some Fulani armed groups adhere to a radical Islamist ideology and regularly carry out attacks on Christian communities.
The Union of Orthodox Journalists previously reported that unidentified individuals hacked a Catholic priest to death with a machete in Nigeria.
