Greek archimandrite: Monk’s murder at Sviatohirsk Lavra shocked us
Greek Archimandrite Ephraim Avramidis expressed deep sorrow over the murder of Monk Varsonofiy during the brutal attack on Sviatohirsk Lavra. The appeal by the priest of the Orthodox Church of Greece was published by the Greek edition of UOJ.
In his appeal, Archimandrite Ephraim expressed support for the brethren of Sviatohirsk Lavra and called on Orthodox Christians throughout the world to spiritual unity.
Dear Christians,
The recent murder at Sviatohirsk Lavra has shaken us deeply. Our hearts grieve for the slain monk Varsonofiy and for the two other monks who were wounded.
Orthodoxy is under attack from many sides, while Ukraine has endured the cruelty of war for many years.
For centuries, divisions among us have caused immense suffering. Too often, brother raises his hand against brother. Where is love? Where is forgiveness? Where are brotherhood and solidarity?
Dear brothers and sisters,
The monks were subjected to a truly brutal attack. Only those who carried it out know who was behind it and why.
As Orthodox Christians, we must stand together, mourn what has happened, and pray to our All-Good God that He may grant His mercy and prevent such tragedies from happening again.
With the blessing of our holy fathers.
Archimandrite Ephraim Avramidis
As the UOJ reported, a Bulgarian priest expressed support for the UOC following the murder of the Sviatohirsk monk.
