Parishioners of the UGCC church detained the man who assaulted a clergyman and handed him over to the police.

In Lviv, at a church on Symonenko Street, a 35-year-old man assaulted a cleric of the UGCC during the morning liturgy, reports Lviv City Council deputy Ihor Zinkevych.

The assailant attempted to disrupt the Sunday service. The clergyman and worshippers present in the church stopped the attacker, detained him at the scene, and handed him over to the police officers who arrived. Law enforcement officers took the detained man into custody.

According to Zinkevych, despite eyewitness reports that the man attacked with a knife, information that the assailant was carrying a bladed weapon has not been confirmed. Preliminary information indicates that the man may have health problems. Law enforcement officers are establishing the exact circumstances of the incident.

Previously, the UOJ reported that in Kryvyi Rih, a UOC priest was attacked with an axe during a liturgy.
