MinCulture marks centenary of Soviet-era reserve at Lavra's Refectory Church
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture presented awards to the Reserve's employees on the occasion of the anniversary at the Refectory Church of the Lavra.
An event marking the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Soviet museum complex on the territory of the monastery took place at the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
During the ceremonial meeting, Ministry of Culture representative Ivan Verbytskyi presented the Reserve's employees with commendations for their contribution to preserving cultural heritage. For her part, Ministry representative Tetiana Berezhna spoke about the need for further protection, research, and restoration of the Lavra's sites.
The Reserve's administration believes that the creation of the Soviet institution on the monastery's territory in 1926 helped save the unique monuments from complete destruction by the Bolshevik authorities. The Reserve also noted that during the 20th century part of the Lavra's cultural heritage was lost but did not specify the reasons for this.
In addition, the Reserve's management reported that restoration work is continuing following the damage caused by the attack on June 15, and that funds were being raised to repair the Dormition Cathedral, to which PrivatBank has already donated UAH 2 million.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Switzerland and UNESCO said how much money they gave for the restoration of the Lavra.
