Police announce “random checks” near churches during Easter
A National Police spokesperson warned that law enforcement will switch to an enhanced mode of operation for Easter.
On April 7, 2026, the National Police of Ukraine announced that it would move to an intensified mode of operation during the Easter holidays. Law enforcement officers plan to carry out “preventive measures” in places where large numbers of people gather.
In a comment to Ukrinform, police spokesperson Yuliia Hirdvilis said: “Our key task is to ensure law and order and the safety of citizens in places of mass gathering, above all near churches, on the streets, and on the roads.” She also explained that police patrols would be stationed as close as possible to the sites of worship services.
Patrol officers will also conduct random stop-and-frisk checks of citizens. According to Hirdvilis, such actions are aimed solely at preventing provocations and guaranteeing public safety. The spokesperson also urged the faithful to assist police in carrying out their duties and to comply with restrictions established by law.
The agency stressed that under martial law, the threat remains real regardless of the date. In this connection, citizens are being asked not to ignore air raid alerts and to go to shelters promptly when alarms sound.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Jerusalem, Jewish worshippers were barred from visiting the Western Wall during Passover.
