Dnipropetrovsk Eparchy cleric dies from wounds sustained in shelling
Archpriest Alexei Okushko remained in grave condition for more than three weeks and died in the hospital.
On April 6, 2026, in his 62nd year, Archpriest Alexei Okushko, a cleric of the Dnipropetrovsk eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reposed in the Lord from wounds he had sustained earlier, the eparchy’s press service reports.
On March 13, 2026, the priest was seriously wounded in the shelling of the settlement of Prosiana and fell into a coma. Despite the efforts of doctors, his life could not be saved.
Archpriest Alexei devoted 32 years to the service of the Church. He was born on September 28, 1964, in Dnipropetrovsk region. After serving in the army and completing his education, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1994. His ordination was performed by Archbishop Irenei of Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvyi Rih. Over the years of his pastoral ministry, Fr. Alexei served in various parishes of the eparchy, including as rector of the Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah in the village of Katerynivka, and was awarded ecclesiastical honors.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Irenei of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad, the funeral service for the newly departed priest will be held on April 8 at the Church of the Archangel Michael in the village of Voloske, Dnipro district. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Archpriest Alexei will be buried at the monastic cemetery of the Tikhvin Convent.
The Dnipropetrovsk eparchy expressed its sincere condolences to the reposeful’s family and loved ones, prayerfully asking the Lord to grant rest to his soul in the dwellings of the righteous.
As the UOJ previously reported, a funeral service was held in Kherson for cathedral parishioners of the UOC killed in shelling.
