UOC bishop offers condolences to families of victims killed in Dnipro strike
Metropolitan Irynei called on clergy and laity to offer special prayers for all victims of the attack that took place on the night of June 2.
Metropolitan Irynei of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad expressed his deep condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the shelling of Dnipro on the night of June 2, 2026. According to the UOC Information Center, the hierarch called the tragedy a cruel attempt to overshadow the joy of the Feast of the Holy Trinity.
The Metropolitan said he received the news of the tragedy in his native city with deep pain.
“We share the unspeakable grief of the families who have lost their dearest loved ones. There are no words that can fully soothe this pain, but we know that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted,” the archpastor said in his address.
Metropolitan Irynei called on the clergy and laity of the eparchy to intensify their prayers for the repose of the souls of those killed, the healing of the wounded, and the swift coming of peace in Ukraine.
As a result of the nighttime strike in Dnipro, 12 people were killed, including two children – a boy born in 2023 and an eight-year-old child. Rescuers recovered their bodies from under the rubble of a destroyed four-story building. Another 37 city residents were injured; 22 of them are currently hospitalized, with doctors assessing the condition of four victims as serious.
As the UOJ reported, the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Kyiv was damaged by shelling.
