Ministry of Culture: Greece is ready to provide funds for the restoration of the Lavra

The Greek ambassador confirmed Athens' readiness to consider financial participation in the restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

On July 1, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Berezhna and the Greek Ambassador to Ukraine Pantelis Alexandros Dimitrakopoulos discussed support for the restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, as reported on the website of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

Berezhna thanked the Greek side for its support of Ukraine and participation in the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund during the Ukraine Recovery Conference URC2026. In turn, the Greek Ambassador confirmed his country's readiness to continue helping Ukraine both through bilateral cooperation projects and through contributions to the fund.

Special attention during the meeting was given to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra following the Russian attack on June 15. Berezhna reported that emergency protective measures for the damaged monument have already been completed, and the next stage will be conservation work.

After that, according to the ministry, the preparation of scientific and design documentation for subsequent restoration will begin. First Deputy Minister of Culture Ivan Verbytsky noted that Ukrainian and international experts have already been engaged to assess the condition of the monument.

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine also reported that consultative support is being provided by UNESCO, whose specialists have carried out initial 3D scanning of the site. The Greek Ambassador confirmed Athens' readiness to consider the possibility of financial participation in the restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and proposed maintaining ongoing coordination with the Ukrainian side.

Previously, the SPJ reported that the Minister of Culture of Ukraine described the restoration of Ukrainian cultural heritage as a shared responsibility of the state, business, and society.
