Nigeria Islamists kill 28 Christians, pastor in nighttime attack
Fulani militants attacked a Christian village in Nigeria, opening fire on residents as they tried to flee their homes.
On June 22, Fulani Islamist militants attacked the village of Kavel in the Bokkos area of Plateau State, Nigeria, killing 28 Christians, including Pastor Marcus Nyam, according to Christian Daily International.
Local residents said the attack began at around 2:00 a.m. One eyewitness reported that the gunmen opened fire on people attempting to leave their homes, while any sounds from the village drew the attackers’ attention.
Residents also said that telephone and telecommunications services were cut off during the assault, preventing villagers from contacting security forces for help. According to witnesses, the attackers spoke Fulani and Hausa and called out the names of certain Christian leaders.
Among those killed was Pastor Marcus Nyam of the Church of Christ in Nations, along with members of his congregation. Church leaders in Bokkos confirmed his death and expressed condolences to his family, friends, and parishioners.
According to the 2026 World Watch List, Nigeria remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians. The report notes that attacks by Islamist groups and radical Fulani militants are most often directed against Christian farming communities in the country’s central and northern regions.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a Roman Catholic priest in Sudan was killed after exposing the theft of medicines intended for the poor.
