Bondarenko recalled that after nationalizing the Lavra, the Bolsheviks turned its churches into a museum of atheism, but did not bury their leaders in the monastery.

By placing a pantheon on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the current authorities have gone further than the Bolsheviks, political analyst Kost Bondarenko told the UOJ.

“Even the Bolsheviks did not bury their heroes and leaders on the territory of the Lavra. They never thought of that. As for Zelensky and his team – they decided to go further. They decided there is no limit to cynicism,” the expert said.

The political analyst also recalled that among those proposed for burial are Uniates and representatives of other confessions.

“Ukrainian history was made by people of different confessions. But choosing an Orthodox monastery as the burial site is a challenge to society and, in fact, an insult to the feelings of believers,” he said.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that an MP explained which Ukrainian laws are violated by the creation of a pantheon in the Lavra.
