The Israeli prime minister said Britain could be described as “the first Islamic republic to get a nuclear weapon.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the United Kingdom as the “Islamic Republic of Britain” and said it could become the first Islamic republic with nuclear weapons during an interview with Israeli military radio station Galey Tzahal. The Guardian reported his remarks on August 14, 2026.

Netanyahu was speaking about what he sees as a shift in Britain’s attitude toward Israel, contrasting the current situation with writings by journalist Randolph Churchill, the son of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

“Go find that in today’s Britain, in what is called the Islamic republic of Britain,” the Israeli prime minister said.

The host asked Netanyahu whether he believed similar processes were taking place across Europe. In response, the prime minister quoted a remark he said had been made by someone else: “Someone said that the first Islamic republic with nuclear weapons will be the Islamic Republic of Britain. We are making sure there won't be another one, in Iran.”

According to The Guardian, neither the Israeli prime minister’s office nor the UK Foreign Office had commented on Netanyahu’s remarks at the time of publication.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that a mass rally against the Islamization of the country had been held in the United Kingdom.
