Supreme Court schedules hearing in Korets Convent case
The Korets Convent requests the court to clarify the ruling on the DESS lawsuit.
The Supreme Court has set a date for the hearing on the petition of the Korets Convent of the UOC. The panel of judges of the Cassation Administrative Court will consider in an open session the religious organization's request to clarify the ruling on the lawsuit seeking to terminate its activities, reports the DESS website.
In June 2026, the highest judicial instance dismissed the appeal of the stavropegial monastery. Earlier, representatives of the convent had appealed the ruling of the appellate court dated March 1, 2026. Following this, the convent asked the Supreme Court to clarify its ruling in the case initiated by DESS officials. The government agency is seeking through the courts to have the activities of the convent completely terminated.
In preparation for the appellate review, the reporting judge requested the case materials, which were received by the Supreme Court on August 18, 2026. Under current legislation, the consideration of such petitions follows the same procedure as that used for the original judicial decision. The judges will hold an open session with the summoning of the parties.
The panel of judges also ordered DESS to publish a notice about the proceedings on its official website. Officials must immediately notify the Administrative Cassation Court of their compliance with this requirement. The hearing in the case will begin on September 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the courthouse in Kyiv.
As the UOJ reported, DESS initiated a lawsuit for the liquidation of the Korets Convent. The state agency is seeking through the courts to completely terminate the activities of the women's monastery.
