Catholic Bishop explains rise in LGBT numbers by decline in belief in God
A Catholic bishop named secularization as the cause of moral erosion.
German RCC bishop Stefan Oster stated that the decline of belief in God has provoked a rise in the number of LGBT supporters. In the Catholic bishop's view, the secularization of society erodes the traditional understanding of human dignity and expands the boundaries of what is permissible in matters of gender, reports Life Site News.
During a sermon, the bishop of the city of Passau emphasized that the weakening influence of Christian churches deprives the concept of human dignity of its firm foundation. Oster explained that without faith, human dignity is no longer connected to being created in the image of God. As examples of the destruction of Christian foundations, he cited discussions about abortion as a "human right," as well as the legalization of assisted suicide.
"For me, this is a breaking of the dam," Oster declared regarding the commercialization of suicide. "This is a distortion of what we understand by human dignity, which is a gift from our God."
The Catholic bishop criticized the hypocrisy of modern politicians, one of whom publicly voted against surrogacy but secretly used this service abroad. Oster also mentioned an LGBT march called "Christopher Street Day."
In the bishop's view, this way of life demonstrates the scale of moral changes in society. Oster called on believers to reflect on whether these phenomena correspond to the dignity granted by God, and recalled the words of the writer Fyodor Dostoevsky: "If there is no God, then everything is permitted."
The bishop noted that Christians are obliged to respect the freedom of others but must not approve of the lifestyle being demonstrated. Oster reminded that every person, including the destitute, the disabled, and the elderly, possesses an inalienable dignity as a child of God.
As the UOJ reported, a German cardinal obliged the clergy to perform blessings of LGBT couples.
