The Eastern American Diocese of the Serbian Church commented on reports alleging that Bishop Irinej would take part in presenting an award to the Ukrainian president.

Bishop Irinej of Washington–New York and Eastern America of the Serbian Orthodox Church will not take part in a ceremony honoring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported by the Serbian edition of UOJ.

In an official statement, the Eastern American Diocese categorically denied claims circulating on social media that Bishop Irinej would participate in a ceremony honoring an invited foreign head of state on September 26, 2026. The Serbian UOJ editors noted that the foreign leader in question is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Eastern American Diocese stressed that reports linking the bishop to the event are false.

As the UOJ reported, the community of St. Nicholas Church of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in New York announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be honored at its Beacon of Hope Dinner, to be held on September 26, 2026.
