UOC parishioners in Dzhuryn build new church to replace one taken by OCU
A UOC community in Vinnytsia Region consecrated a new Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos after losing its former place of worship in 2023.
On August 31, 2026, a new church dedicated to the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, built by the UOC community, was consecrated in the village of Dzhuryn, Zhmerynka District, Vinnytsia Region, Pershyi Kozatskyi reports.
The Great Consecration of the church and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated by Metropolitan Agapit of Mohyliv-Podilskyi and Sharhorod. The community began construction after its former church was re-registered in favor of the OCU in 2023, leaving UOC parishioners without a permanent place of worship.
In 2025, OCU head Epifaniy Dumenko visited Dzhuryn for celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the church that had transferred to his structure. Meanwhile, UOC parishioners continued building their own church, where regular services can now once again be held.
After the consecration, Metropolitan Agapit congratulated the rector and the community on completing the construction and thanked everyone who had helped build the church. The bishop presented church awards and certificates of blessing to benefactors and those who had worked on the project.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the altar of the UOC Transfiguration Church in the village of Zalom, Transcarpathia, was consecrated.
