Kyiv Theological Academy publishes book on Orthodoxy in 17th-century Ukraine
The Kyiv Theological Academy (KDAiS) has published a new textbook titled History of Orthodoxy in Ukraine in the 17th Century. The book was prepared by Archimandrite Mitrofan (Bozhko), head of the academy’s postgraduate program and its academic secretary. The Publishing Council of the Kyiv Theological Schools released the textbook as part of the academy’s series of scholarly works.
The publication was issued with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The textbook is dedicated to the 430th anniversary of the birth of St. Petro Mohyla.
The book examines the key transformations in church governance, theological education, liturgical life, theological thought, printing, and church art. It also provides a detailed account of interconfessional relations and Church–state relations in the 17th century.
The historical material is presented with attention to regional developments within a broad civilizational context. The author brings together early historical sources, classic monastic works, and the findings of modern scholarship. The textbook combines factual material with analytical interpretation.
As previously reported by the UOJ, KDAiS will host a conference on the relationship between theological and secular scholarship.
