Ancient Kyiv Reserve head calls Pochaiv procession “absolutely horrifying”
Roman Malenkov complained that neither the war, Russian missiles, nor the Ukrainian authorities can stop the pilgrims heading to Pochaiv.
Roman Malenkov, director of the Ancient Kyiv National Reserve, published a Facebook post criticizing UOC pilgrims taking part in the procession from Kamianets-Podilskyi to the Pochaiv Lavra.
According to Malenkov, tens of thousands of people are taking part in the procession: “They are marching again, and it is absolutely horrifying.”
“Neither the war, nor Russian missiles, nor the Ukrainian authorities – who are behaving rather spinelessly in this case – can stop them. Isn’t this a mass gathering, which is prohibited by law?” the official asked.
Malenkov did not specify whether the law permits celebrations involving tens of thousands of Hasidim in Uman, mass Catholic and Greek Catholic pilgrimages, or open-air rock concerts.
He claimed that “a significant number of them remain pro-Russian waiters.”
“Their level of organization and sheer numbers are simply terrifying. And this is in western Ukraine,” the official wrote.
As the UOJ reported, the traditional procession from Kamianets-Podilskyi to the Pochaiv Lavra has begun.
