Firefighters save UOC church in Volyn village of Mashiv
The fire at St. Barbara Church in the village of Mashiv was extinguished within two hours, and specialists are working to determine its cause.
Firefighters from Liuboml and Starovoitove extinguished a fire at the wooden St. Barbara Church in the village of Mashiv. Local specialists have begun working to establish the exact cause of the blaze, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Volyn Region reports.
The emergency service received a call about the fire at St. Barbara Church at 3:46 p.m. on August 30, 2026. Firefighters from the nearest stations were immediately dispatched to the scene. Volunteer fire brigades from the neighboring villages of Shtun and Holovne also arrived to assist.
Fire crews used water hoses to battle the flames. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the fire was completely extinguished within two hours.
The flames partially damaged the walls, ceiling, and two wooden doors. Elements of the church interior and church property were also damaged by the intense heat. Specialists are now conducting an examination to determine the exact cause of the fire.
