Ukrposhta issues stamp featuring Lavra for Soviet-era reserve's anniversary
The new postal block, issued in a print run of 40,000 copies, depicts the Lavra's churches, bell tower, and ancient frescoes.
The company "Ukrposhta" has issued a special stamp on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra". On September 30, 2026, the new stamp was officially canceled in a ceremony.
The new stamp features the Lavra’s churches and the bell tower within an ornamental border. The First Day Cover bears images of the frescoes from the Church of the Savior at Berestovo, as well as the iconostasis of the Trinity Gate Church. The total print run of the commemorative postage issue was 40,000 copies.
Representatives of the reserve noted that over the course of these hundred years, museum staff, scholars, and restorers have studied the history of the Lavra and worked to preserve its architectural heritage.
Recall that the creation of the "All-Ukrainian Museum Town" on the territory of the Lavra in 1926 marked the beginning of the liquidation of monastic life, the eviction of the brethren, and the arrests and executions of the Caves monks. In the Soviet period, under the reserve, a museum of atheism was set up in the monastery's churches and the relics of the venerable saints were desecrated.
In 1988, the state handed the monastery over to the Church in a terrible and neglected condition, after which it was the monks and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who had to revive the shrines of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra from the ruins and restore them.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the UOC responded to the call to celebrate the anniversary of the museum in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
